Earth Day Pollinator Pop up & Field Day

Registration is closed for this event
Join us for our Earth Day Pollinator Pop up to celebrate our pollinators and learn how to build pollinator habitat in your own outdoor spaces!

WFAN is partnering with the Xerces Society to bring you an Earth Day event buzzing with pollinators! 🐝

Join us for an interactive workshop that will guide you through the next step in developing your urban/peri-urban pollinator habitat! Learn about the role pollinators and other beneficial insects have in our urban farm ecosystems, and connect with other farmers to share experiences, resources, and best practices around your pollinator plantings. We'll discuss practical steps for incorporating pollinator habitat into your own farm or garden, and highlight options for short-term and long-term habitat development. This workshop and field day will be open to all land stewards, whether you are interested in developing long term perennial habitat or want to incorporate beneficial insects into short-term leased plantings.

Our day will start with a morning workshop at the Des Moines Public Library learning about urban pollinator habitats, and we will transition to Chicory Grove City Farm in the afternoon to see how they have implemented restored prairie plantings, perennial orchards and specialty crop plantings to suppor pollinators and beneficial insects at their farm. We will have native annual seeds and perennial seedlings for folks to take home to support their own pollinator plantings, too! 🌱

When: Saturday, April 22nd, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Where: Des Moines Public Library with an afternoon Field Trip to Chicory Grove City Farm
