About Harvesting Our Potential Mentorships for Mentees

WFAN's Harvesting Our Potential Mentorship Program matches women and nonbinary individuals who are exploring or expanding careers in farming and sustainable agriculture with experienced women farmer mentors. Due to our funding this year we are primarily offering these mentorships with farmer mentors in Iowa and Ohio. If you are interested in applying and do not reside in Iowa, please contact program coordinator Wren Almitra, wren@wfan.org.

Through this program, mentees work directly with a farmer instructor to gain hands-on experience. Mentorships will range in length during the growing season depending on mentee goals set with the mentor farmer and availability of both parties and schedules will be set between mentees and mentors.

In addition to the on-farm mentorships*, there may also be a mid-season in-person mentee retreat and other events, at dates and times to be determined. Both mentors and mentees will also be asked to provide mid-season and post-season evaluations.

*Due to COVID-19 we'll be evaluating interest with mentors and mentees working together in person on a case by case basis depending on safety measures and current guidelines.

A stipend of $600 will be paid to the mentee by WFAN to participate in all aspects of the program. Mentors also receive a stipend.
